Night at Auckland Museum
Auckland Museum
Museums & Galleries
Night at Auckland Museum flips the museum experience on its head, turning it into an after-dark playground of live performances, interactive installations, and unexpected surprises.
Each season brings a fresh theme, shaking up the galleries with a mix of culture, storytelling, and spectacle. Whether it’s shadowy spaces, roaming performers, or hands-on experiences, it’s a night that makes you see the museum in a whole new way.
Following the success of Wild Things! a second season of Night At Auckland Museum was commissioned called Secrets Shhh! The popularity of the first campaign led us to use the hero video asset again for the second season.
To distinguish between the first and second season we commissioned an animated intro and outro based on the theme of the NAAM production. Working with our external animation agency we developed a series of characters and a short animated sting. This direction flowed through to other campaign assets and the characters were repurposed for social media content.
To establish a distinctive yet adaptable identity for
Night at Auckland Museum, I developed a core campaign style that could evolve with each season’s theme while maintaining a recognisable visual language.
The goal was to craft a design framework that felt fresh and engaging each year while ensuring consistency across all marketing and event materials.
For the Wild Things! season, this meant striking a balance between playful energy and the museum’s unique atmosphere.
The creative approach leaned into bold typography, dynamic compositions, and a flexible colour palette that could be adapted to different content needs.
Resident Auckland Museum dinosaur Basil was a guest of honour throughout both Night's at Auckland Museum, along his keeper, Basil entertained our guests and took part in several games.
In the lead up to Night at Auckland Museum we ran an online AMA (Ask me anything) allowing online visitors to learn more about the type of dinosaur Basil is, as well as many other questions on natural history.
